Mazen Sayed Ahmed
Certified Functional Strength Master Trainer
I have definitely achieved my goal of being a successful trainer.
Bodyweight training gave me the idea to pursue certification as a functional trainer!
My name is Mazen, I’m 23 years old, and in 2015 I earned the Dipl. Functional Strength Master Trainer certification at the Flexyfit Sports Academy in 2015.
I’ve always been very athletic. When I was 7 years old—back when I was still living in Egypt—I started surfing, which I still enjoy doing today. For a short while after that, I also played soccer, but that didn’t last very long. Later on, I took up gymnastics, which I did for a longer period of time.
When I was about 16, I trained intensively with weights for half a year—that was by far the least athletic period of my life! I then switched to bodyweight training and, as a result, opened a small studio called “Bodyweight Training.” There, my friend and I ran the largest bodyweight group training program in all of Austria . Deaf people also trained there, and I learned sign language from them.
During that time, I was often asked about my training background, and to be honest, I had to admit that I didn’t have any formal training, since I’d taught myself most of it. In August 2014, after about 2.5 years, we shut down the bodyweight training program, and I didn’t have any clients for two months. It was kind of like a “mini-burnout.” I then decided to pursue formal training.

We chose the Flexyfit Sports Academy,
since it seemed much more reputable than its competitors. My parents were against it at the time, as they were convinced I wouldn’t make a penny in that industry. I had also imagined the training to be much easier than it actually turned out to be. Since I attended the course from Monday through Thursday , the training was very time-consuming and extensive. I even financed my training during that time with a part-time job at Side-Step. After about 1.5 years, I completed the training and immediately started working as a head coach at Fightness Fitness Club ; they were looking for a certified Functional Strength Master Trainer at the time.
I’ve been working there as a head coach ever since, and on the side I also give tons of personal training sessions, including to celebrities. I got all my clients through Facebook —one knew the other, and that’s how it spread . I’ve definitely achieved my goal of being a successful trainer .
The most important thing is to stay realistic and down-to-earth. Keep it real!
